Der auf ein Lorengestell mit Schutzdach montierte Kompressor besitzt einen Elektromotor. Ursprünglich verfügte er noch über einen Druckluftbehälter, von dem die Pressluft über Schläuche zu den Handbohrmaschinen (Pressluftbohrer) geleitet wurde. Das Museum besitzt auch die Original-Schläche des Kompressors. Mit den Pressluftbohrern wurden die Sprenglöcher gebohrt. Sie wurden mit Schwarzpulver gefüllt. Blieben nach der Sprengung noch sehr große Steine übrig wurden diese nochmals mit einem Bohrloch versehen (sog. Knabberbohren) und erneut gesprengt.
