Apatit ist ein häufig vorkommendes Mineral, welches aber in der bräunlich-roten Farbe selten anzutreffen ist. Das Exemplar ist idiomorph und es zeigt einen perfekt hexagonalen Kristall. Solche säulenartigen Kristalle bilden sich in Klüften oder Holräumen. Apatit ist die Hauptquelle für Phosphor sowie Phosphat und daher für die Herstellung von Mineraldüngern von wesentlicher Bedeutung. In der Medizin wird die Varietät Hydroxylapatit als künstlicher Knochenersatz oder als bioaktive Beschichtung von Titan-Implantaten zur Verbesserung des Knocheneinbaus eingesetzt.
