Die Lithografie zeigt einen Bossierer bei der Arbeit. Er trägt die typischen Holzschuhe und stellt mit dem Fäustel Mosaikpflaster (auch Kleinpflaster genannt) her. Die Herstellung der Pflastersteine erfolgte nicht immer im Steinbruch sondern mitunter auch direkt an der Straße. Der hier dargestellte Steinarbeiter könnte in einem Wagen an der Straße sitzen und die Steine zur direkten Weiterverarbeitung als Pflaster herstellen.
