Zu sehen ist der breite, mit Eisschollen bedeckte Flusslauf der Elbe vor den Hängen von Radebeul. Auf diesen sind der Bismarckturm und das Spitzhaus zu erkennen. In der Bildmitte ist die Silhouette des Ortes Kaditz mit seiner markanten Kirche zu sehen. Die Landschaft ist schneebedeckt. Das Wasser des Flusses im Bildvordergrund ist aufgewühlt. Am Ufer ist links die Mündung der Zschone zu sehen. Zentral am unteren Bildrand schlagen die Wasser eine Welle, die stark an die große Welle vor Kanagawa von Katsushika Hokusai erinnert.
